Stevie Wonder: Age and Blindness Can’t Stop the Music

Stevie Wonder, the enduring soul music icon, continues to captivate audiences, even at the age of 75. The Motown legend recently wrapped up a successful UK tour, receiving high praise from critics. Despite his peers like Billy Joel and The Eagles scaling back on their musical activities, Wonder has no plans to retire.

Music is a Lifelong Pursuit

Wonder’s passion for music remains undimmed. In a recent interview with the BBC’s Sidetracked podcast, he shared his philosophy: “For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there’s more for you to do.” He likened his musical talent to a gift that keeps flowing through him and stated his intention to keep creating as long as he can imagine.

Exciting New Project on the Horizon

Wonder also revealed that he is still working on a new album, titled ‘Through The Eyes Of Wonder.’ First announced in 2008, the project is expected to be a reflection of his experience as a blind man. This would be Wonder’s first studio album since ‘A Time To Love’ in 2005, continuing a recording career that began when he was just 11 years old.

Wonder’s Legacy in the 1970s

Although he has been performing for decades, Wonder’s enthusiasm for his craft is still palpable. In a recent interview, he expressed his love for his music, likening his songs to his children. He takes great pleasure in revisiting his biggest hits, many of which came from the 1970s when he won the Grammy Award for best album three times in a row.

Addressing the Rumours

During his recent Cardiff concert, Wonder took a moment to address a long-standing conspiracy theory about his blindness. He quashed the rumours, affirming that he had been blind since shortly after his birth. The star views his disability as a gift, stating that it has allowed him to ‘see the world in the vision of truth, of sight.’

Music as a Tool for Change

Throughout his career, Wonder has used his music to champion social causes and speak truth to power. He has been a vocal civil rights campaigner and played a significant role in getting Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday recognized as a national holiday in the US. In a recent interview, he expressed his concern about America ‘going backwards’ and expressed his hope that people will wake up and resist such regressive tendencies.
