A Gastronomic Journey Through Richmond: A Foodie’s Paradise
Pro Tip Before You Embark
Before you dive into this culinary adventure, remember to dress comfortably – think loose clothes and comfortable walking shoes. Because trust us, you wouldn’t want anything to come between you and the delectable delights that await you.
A Taste of Home in Richmond
As a Chinese descendant, I find Richmond to be a little piece of home. Whether you’re craving some dim sum or Vietnamese crepes, there’s always something to tantalize your taste buds. And when my partner came to visit, I planned an epic food tour through the city. My only advice? Stay away from those tight jeans.
Breakfast at The Jade Seafood Restaurant
Richmond is home to a large Chinese community, making a dim sum breakfast an absolute must-have. The Jade Seafood Restaurant is one such place that lives up to its reputation, especially on Saturday mornings when it’s packed with families. Be sure to try their siu mai, cheung fun, and egg tarts. But the star dish? Definitely the har gow – a juicy prawn enveloped in a translucent flour wrapper.
Sweet 7: A Mid-Day Respite
For a sweet pick-me-up post-meal, head over to Sweet 7. A mere 15-minute walk from The Jade Seafood Restaurant, this spot serves a refreshing Mango Pomelo Sago. It’s a delightful blend of mango slush, pomelo and sago pearls – the perfect summer treat.
Lunch at Bánh Mì Très Bon
For lunch, Bánh Mì Très Bon is a must-visit. This Vietnamese eatery specializes in bánh mì, with bread baked fresh from a traditional Central Vietnam recipe. If you can’t decide on the fillings, go for the trio of mini bánh mìs. Also, don’t miss out on their Vietnamese coffee or bánh khọt.
Afternoon Treat at Sweet Memory
At Sweet Memory, the dessert section is the real winner. Try the Triple Classic Tofu Pudding or the Peach Green Tea Jelly for a light, sweet afternoon treat.
Dinner at the Richmond Night Market
The Richmond Night Market is the perfect spot to close your culinary journey. It’s not the cheapest option, but with at least one menu item under $10 at every vendor, you can still enjoy a feast without breaking the bank. Give the spiral potatoes or ahi tuna sushi taco a try, and don’t forget to leave room for dessert – mango sticky rice and beignets are a must!
