Jimmy Kimmel Claps Back at Donald Trump’s Late-Night Show Criticism

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has responded to a recent attack by former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, Trump had predicted that Kimmel’s late-night show would be the “next to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes,” following the cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”.

Trump’s Tirade Against Late-Night Hosts

On Tuesday, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to lambast Kimmel, accusing him of having “absolutely NO TALENT”. He also warned that Kimmel’s show would be the next one to be cancelled. Trump went on to predict that Jimmy Fallon’s show would be next after Kimmel’s. In his post, Trump accused the late-night hosts of destroying what used to be great television and claimed pride in playing a part in their supposed downfall.

Kimmel’s Response

Kimmel responded to Trump’s criticism via Instagram. He shared a screenshot of the former president’s post and added a cryptic caption: “I’m hearing you’re next. Or maybe it’s just another wonderful secret”. This was an apparent reference to a report that Trump had written a similar phrase to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003.

Trump’s Response to the Epstein Letter Allegations

The Wall Street Journal had reported on an alleged letter bearing Trump’s name with the phrase “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret”. Trump denied writing the letter and called the story “false, malicious, and defamatory”. He has since sued the publication over the story.

Reactions from Other Comedians

Chelsea Handler, a fellow comedian, also weighed in on the issue. She expressed her amazement in Kimmel’s Instagram comment section that a president could find the time to involve himself in such matters. She suggested that Pippi Longstocking would be a better fit for the office of the president.

Fallon’s Reaction to Colbert’s Cancellation

Jimmy Fallon, another late-night host mentioned in Trump’s post, also addressed the cancellation of Colbert’s show. He expressed his disapproval of the trend and lauded Colbert for his years of smart and hilarious television. He ended his remarks with a jab at Trump for his recent involvement in the FIFA World Cup trophy presentation.

Colbert’s Response to Trump

Stephen Colbert also had a few words for Trump during his opening monologue on Monday’s “The Late Show”. He read Trump’s post celebrating the decision to cancel his show on Truth Social. He then responded with a satirical witticism, telling Trump to “go f— yourself”.
